I would suggest a sticking / faulty thermostat

Thanks for replying, everything I've read and watched has indicated the sensor, which I suspected because of the constant reading at 73 Degrees C. So I need to make checks on the thermostat then.

Could try changing the coolant temp sensor , usually about a tenner or less . Constant reading of 73 degrees would suggest running cool and thermostat stuck open ?

Trying to disconnect the sensor, but I can't get the plug off, I don't know how. It seems to be broken, any idea what the plug and socket arrangement are know as? I may have to cut the plug off and fit a new one.

Usually can tell by looking at new switch if you squeeze sides or use a small screwdriver to open locking tabs

This is on an ASTRA but may be similar

Thanks so much, I have seen that video before I asked for help and noted that the plug was off before he started.
I will persevere and have another try.

Baffled now,
Changed coolant temperature sensor, and the thermostat.
P1116 code is still present and never goes away.
"Hidden" menu shows an coolant temperature of 73 degrees constantly, regardless if the engine is hot or cold, with engine running, and when not running.
OBD Car Scanner app shows coolant temperature rising and falling as normal.
Cleared the P1116 code with the app, spanner light goes off.
Driving along "Hidden" menu says 73 degrees, live data from app says coolant heating when driving climbing from 25 degrees up to 100 degrees. All without the light being on.
After turning the ignition off and back on, the spanner light comes back on.

Try reset for spanner light

Thank you but, that just resets the "insp" information, that's not showing, it's the light of a car with a spanner through it that is on

All sorted now, replaced the thermostat housing and sensor no codes but the hidden menu still say 73 degrees all the time, and the fault codes no longer show .
Thank you for all your help and suggestions
