Vauxhall Meriva black smoke from exhaust and slow acceleration

Over the past few days I have noticed a slow exceleration and also black smoke coming from the exhaust. Can anyone tell me what this problem is please

i suspect a split in one of the intercooler or turbo hoses. is the engine management lamp illuminated?

thanks for replying, but no, no warning lights are on, and sometimes the car seems to have improved with the pulling power and other times not

maybe the exhaust gas recirculatio valve is sticking (egr)
