Vauxhall Insignia engine reving noise

Car: Vauxhall Insignia
Variant: 2.0 160 cdti exclusiv hatchback
Model Year: 2010
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi all
Newbie here with problem two.
I have a strange reving noise coming from the engine it happens both whilst idling or when driving. When it happens whilst idling the engine note changes and the Rev's go up from 900 rpm too 1000. But if I flick the accelerator it sometimes goes back to normal when it happens when driving again the engine note changes from regular driving noise to like there is an additional engine under the bonnet. It was an intermittent fault at first but seems to happen all the time now I have had it to the garage and they at a loss said it could be the DPF but not sure. Any help or idea's would be great.
