Vauxhall Insignia tailgate does not stay open under automatic control and fully closes

Car: Vauxhall Insignia
Variant: Elite Tourer
Model Year: 2009
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
The Tailgate when opened electrically does not stay open and closes fully. There is a double electronic 'bleep' generated from the dashboard console when the tailgate reaches optimum height and on te bleep raises a little further and then closes fully.

The tailgate when operated manually closes under the weight of the tailgate.

There is a normal gas strut on the LHS and an acutator cintrolled gas strut on the RHS. My local garage has removed the struts and has indicated that the strut pressures SEEM okay. The Vauxhall garage have no experience with this fault beforehand. The Accuator 13338838 is common on GM modules. Is a actuator failure or an ECU failure and can someone advise?

Sounds like it could just be a faulty height sensor on the boot lid.
There would have to be a pressure switch to cut off the motor once it has reached optimum hieght. Maybe this is faulty and is not cutting the power or telling the ECU that the boot is fully open so it malfunctions and shuts again.

It's funny you mention that the boot won't hold its own weight. This would almost definitely suggest that the correct operating pressure isn't being produced or on something a little more standard weak struts

I too have a insignia elite tourer with same problem tail gate opens fully, closes 1 quarter, opens fully, then closes fully. Tailgate will not stay open ????

My local vauxhall agent Pentagon (formaly Grimshaws) in Eccles Manchester, checked everthing with the computer, they tell me no faults showing, So it must be the power arm on the RHS at a cost of £400.00 + and plus vat. They tell me if the new power arm doesn't rectify fault I must still pay for it, as it cann't be returned. So now they have replaced the power arm and the tail gate still doesn't stay open as it should.

WHAT DO I DO NEXT ?? I am going in to Pentagon Saturday 19/04/2014 to see what they are going to do now.

Hi,
I'm having the same problem with my 2010 Sports Tourer. The local Vauxhall dealer hasn't been able to find out what is causing the problem. They've replaced one of the struts but it hasn't solved the problem.

What was the eventual outcome in your case and how much did it all cost.I have the Network Q warranty but they will not pay for the new strut replacent as struts are not covered apparently!

Regards

Pentagon replaced both rams and that rectified the problem.
