Car: Vauxhall Grandland X
Variant: Grandland X
Model Year: 2019
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
MY car lost power a engine light came on saying engine fault repair required, turns out yet again FOR THE SECOND TIME I needed new spark plugs My problem is spark plugs 2nd set of spark plugs fitted to my 69 plate Grandland X in just over 12 months and 14 thousand miles since last set fitted and now can't buy the original fitted plugs anywhere. Question is , is this a problem just with my car or is this a common fault i have heard about

Not heard of any reason why they should be changed so soon on your car , seems strange at that mileage compared to other makes where they last a lot longer

Thanks whittinghame. I got a Print out from my Garage that says. The reason for the misfire is .
Engine Misfire: All models with 1.2 turbocharged engine 03/18
Cause: unsatisfactory design of spark plugs.
Remedy: Fit Modified spark plugs.
It would appear however that ,despite my mechanics best effort in locating plugs That there are no Modified spark plug available at this time for these cars.
so im not sure what to do next it would appear to me there is clearly a fault

Is this a Vauxhall dealership ? I would find it strange they cant supply the plugs as there must be thousands of cars with that engine that would be affected if that was the case .

it is not a vauxhall dealership. However the dealership was contacted by my garage and asked for spark plugs . They could not supply them as the cant get any as no one makes them or any modified plugs for that car. IT is my understanding it only affects Grandland x from around 2019 /2021 when changes were made to these cars apparently, but don't quote me on that as i am not 100 percent sure on that fact but i am trying to find out,. it is also my understand that NGK no longer make spark plugs or modified plugs for this car.
So still at a bit of a loss. I am in contact with vauxhall and I am on to my fourth escalation up the chain of command

We have just broken down on the M40, same problem and symptoms, only 9,000 miles, 69 plate, costing £350 to get us home plus £120 for extra accommodation!! Then the repairs as our turbo is affected

That's round about the time my first set were replaced at 10,000 miles when I broke down and was removed by recovery. The next time was at 24,000 miles . Only 14,000 miles since first new set
so two new sets since new car purchase. This can't be right . And on top of that you can't buy the original or adapted spark plugs anywhere. As no one makes
them.

I bought my grandland x 2020 I've had the car for 2.5 years and its 3.5 years old, i have had no problems starting the the engine , it have never struggled to pick up speed or ever slowed down, but in April I broke down, My local garage done a diagnostic an it showed that the cylinder 1 had mis fired and also the wet belt was disintegrating with the oil, Arnold Clark vauxhall in mount Vernon done a diagnostic and said its not the wet belt that has damaged the engine but has “wear and tear” and can be changed when fixing it , it was the spark plug cylinder 1 is broken and that’s what damage the engine and be cause of this it’s going to cost 7,600 to fix , the car has done 26000 mile , in 3.5 years Arnold Clark wont pay , vauxhall wont pay, extended warranty wont pay,( extended warranty waste of money ) . But I've still to pay the finance even though I don’t have the car it still with Arnold Clark and not even been offered a courtesy car , this has been since April this happened, what do i do

You need to get an independent examiner to check out your car and report on findings , verify what your other garage are saying was the cause . Also depends on mileage and service record . Might be best to seek legal help .
