Car: Vauxhall Frontera

Model Year: 2003
Categories: Leaks & Noises
in the last couple of days the temperature dial has been rising, my husband put water in but it had only been topped up a week ago, today going to work i only got 5 miles along the road and the dial rose right up to red i pulled immediately over and as i stopped steam came out of the bonnet, we went back for it an hour later put more water in and managed to get it home but we let it run for 10 mins outside the house to see what happened and it started rising to half way, is it the thermostat, please help im flying on holiday tuesday and its booked in at the airport car park. Thanks Lesley

You will have to find where you are losing water from . Could possibly be water pump , hose etc . Also make sure rad fan is cutting in . If you cant see where water leaking from , a pressure test on cooling system should show fault .If still having problems , you will need to get a block test .

Hiya, its only lost a litre in 2 days it didn't overheat because of lack of water over heats randomly?

With the sealed cooling systems in todays cars , you shouldn't really need to top up at all or very , very rarely .The fact that you have had to top it up in the last week or so means you've got a leak .On the off chance ,could check cap on header / coolant tank .

sounds to me like the system is under too much pressure, could be your head gasket going, best plan is to pop it into your local garage for a diagnose

As suggested in my first post , if fault not found , the block test will tell if head gasket leaking .
