Vauxhall Frontera high revving engine

Variant: 2.2 i 16v petrolk

cylinder head was removed to fix overheating problem. head needed welding & scimming refitted head now when started engine revvs to & stays at about 5000 rpm with the throttle butterfly closed. have found that the earth wire that bolts onto the front of the inlet manifold is live but if diconnect the engine will not run. have checked injectors,trapped or unpluged wires & air leaks. also when running engine management light is not lit. (am now very stumped)

Hi there
With regard to the earth wire that connects to the head, have you tested the wire with a test light or when you say its live is it just sparking when reatatched to the head, sounds like the main battery earth lead is broken,(generally attached to gearbox) if the one you refer to is only a small wire. if thats the case the engine cuts out because you are taking the earth away. check this out before you go any further. cheers
