Vauxhall Frontera engine reving over 2000rpm when at normal temperature.

Car: Vauxhall Frontera
Variant: 3.2 V6
Model Year: 1999

Engine revs only occasionally over 2000 rpm even after driving for upto 10 minutes.
Have tried replacing temp coolant sensor did not solve the problem.
Any other suggestions please.

It may as simple as a sticking idle control valve or throttle butterfly or an air leak somewhere .

Changed the coolant sensor no result.
Engine now revs at up to 3000 rpm when travelling and stays at they rpm.
Stop for 5-10 minutes the engine will start first time and tick over at around 800 rpm.
Can anyone suggest a solution as becoming a pain in the arse.
Thanks
