Vauxhall Frontera blowing smoke under load

Car: Vauxhall Frontera
Variant: 2.2 dti
Model Year: 1998
Categories: Leaks & Noises
Firstly I'd like to say hello to everyone here, also treat me kindly as I aren't that good with motors :-(.

My Q/Problem is that my fronty seems to be blowing blue/black smoke out of the exhuast. This seems to mainly happen under load, although i can't see it myself so i don't think it's billowing out. Also,(this may or may not be a related problem),on any steep hills my fronty seems to struggle. Also when I'm in 3rd gear for over long engine management light comes on :-(.

I have trawled the net only to find that it could be anything from a blown turbo/EGR valve to a knackered fuel pump.Times being what they are money is @ a definite premium,so I can't afford to take it to a garage.

So any help in trying to sort this out would be most gratefully recieved.

Thx in-advance for any help :-)

So many possible causes as you have found in your searches , get it scanned and see what's showing.

have you checked intercooler pipes for leaks /splits also you could remove pipes from turbo and check for play in impeller bearings and excess oil in housing you could also consider having a injector leak test done that is just a few sugestions
