you have a leak somewhere,if nothing visible showing,it could be a vapour leak, can you pinpoint the smell to any point on the car, could be a problem with the fuel filler neck,is the flap closing up after filling with fuel, does the tank take ages to fill up?could be a restriction in the filler neck

There was problems with the filler caps causing this fault , almost sure some were replaced under warranty .

??? there has been a TSB on this for months, no secret.

You could try not pushing on the filler cap as you turn it as well, that seems to be the main problem.

Petrol Engines – Fuel Smell in Passenger Compartment
Customer complains of fuel smell in the passenger compartment. Often the filler cap is loose.
This is due to the customer pushing the filler cap in with too much pressure force when tightening. This causes the ratchet mechanism to activate too early and the necessary pressure force on the filler cap sealant couldn’t be reached.
In case of customer complaint replace the existing fuel filler cap seal with the improved seal. When installing the new seal apply silicone oil between the seal and the fuel filler cap seating.
Note: For this operation only a few drops of silicone oil are necessary.

Improved Seal 13348085

Silicone Oil 90001800
