Vauxhall Corsa engine failure: stop vehicle

I drive 7 hours down the road yesterday, and then I managed to drive 5 hours of the journey home today and then my car flagged up a engine management light and said “Engine Failure: Stop Vehicle”, the car slowed itself down on it’s own and cut off Whenever I try to turn my car on now, the engine chugs and then cuts off and isn’t driving. A recovery truck has came and picked it up, but unsure why this has all of a sudden happened.
