Vauxhall Corsa suddenly stopped moving

Car: Vauxhall Corsa
Variant: F automatic
Model Year: 2022
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
When driving about 5 mph the car suddenly stopped moving. The engine was running and the gear lever was in Drive but the car would not move when the accelerator was pressed.

I pressed the brake then back to accelerator but no motion.

I pressed the brake then put it into Park and then into Drive and then pressed the accelerator and off it went.

During this episode the stop/start feature was turned off so that the engine would be expected to stay on and it did.

There has been no further problem and a Vauxhall dealer service investigation can not find a fault.

I do not feel safe driving the car. What should I do? The car is under warranty.

If it hasn't occurred again and been checked out by dealership , may have been a one off . All I can think of , would be the gear selector was not fully in position / slipped out as it was fine after going from P back into D

Thank you. The "D" was lit up and it had been in that position for about 10 miles. But, I suppose it could be as you say. I will be careful of that now.

If it was not fully in position , the movement of the car . engine may have been enough to knock it out of D . Hopefully that's all it was .

I've asked the service team and they said if it was mis-alignment of the gear selector then a fault code would have been generated. They did not find any fault codes nor anything amiss with a visual inspection. Nor was a road test under various conditions re-creating the fault. They will not say that it is "roadworthy" and that there isn't a problem. Their procedures are complete.

I wonder why the service department can't log unexplained problems or even query them directly to Vauxhall engineers. Software diagnostics only find what they are looking for. If this is an unknown fault then surely someone would want to know??

My insurance says that they consider the "passed all the checks" service "roadworthy" and is "fine for the insurance".

I once ran a Vauxhall dealership and if this was happening often and they were getting reports from over the country on this it would be logged and followed up / investigated and probably be covered by a TSB ( TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ) or if really serious , a recall on affected vehicles . I dont think your gear selector was caused by " mis-alignment of the gear selector " as such . If it was it would it would be all the time . I think it may just have been a simple , once off , human error in selecting gear

Thank you. That is helpful insight into Vauxhall error procedures. They have told me the problem cannot be logged.

The fact that you had the car in and they checked and also road tested the car would usually mean they had to raise a job card to get a mechanic / technician to account for their time . Therefore it should be logged in to that dealerships computer / system . They may have changed procedures but this is usually what happens in dealerships I've ran . It does take quite a few warranty claims for the same fault before it raises a red flag
