Vauxhall Corsa i have a whirring sound coming from the left side of the engine, even though every thing is switched off

my battery has been draining over night, and today i noticed a whirring sound coming from the left side of the engine, its stops when i disconnect the battery, and does not come back on when i re -connect the battery but when i start my car up and turn it off and remove the key i can hear it,

Impossible to sat without hearing it . You need to try and locate exactly where it is coming from when the noise is there .Could check the headlamp adjuster motor . If not that , you will need to check for a parasitic drain
