Vauxhall Corsa lack of power and sounds throaty

Car: Vauxhall Corsa
Variant: 1.0 ecoflex
Model Year: 2013
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
This has been regularly serviced developed a problem last year which resulted in new coil pack been ok since. Now runs ok on a level road until you have to go up an incline or hill when the power drops the car struggles to go up and sounds really throaty almost as if the exhaust is blowing. No warning lights come on. Used a diagnostic machine which showed no errors. Cleaned MAF sensor hadn't made any difference to issue. Had a garage check the exhaust found nothing. I cant afford to pay a garage to change numerous parts until its resolved. Any ideas appreciated

Has any one road tested the car to see what the fault is ? As it's only happening on incline / hill , sure it's not clutch slip .

I have had someone road test it and they suggested cleaning the MAF. Don't mean to sound dull but if the clutch was slipping wouldn't it happen more often.

You are correct , usually clutch would show more often but the fault shows more when under load like going up hills .Got to be careful how and what you use to clean MAF or you can damage it .Could try this ,run engine , disconnect MAF and see if engine alters . If not , usually indicates faulty MAF.

Just to add , if the " throaty " noise is exhaust sounding it may be the exhaust manifold or gasket .

we did use a proper cleaner it has made a little difference to the running of the car. Did disconnect it and drive car without it, didn't make any difference.
I guess I have no choice put to put in the garage :(

If no difference on engine at idle with MAF disconnected it's usually an indication that it's doing nothing and dud .

Pointless cleaning MAF's on these,
always fit new ones,
I don't know how many I've done on these Corsa's and don't fit pattern parts.
O/E manufacturers parts only.

Just to update you apparently the timing chain has slipped and been quoted £700 to replace. After phoning a few garages I was told the same thing, that it should not have gone after 40K so called Vauxhall. Having proved my service history am currently waiting for an offer under "good will"

Thank you for update .Hope you get a satisfactory outcome from Vauxhall , timing chains are a common fault on Corsas .
