Vauxhall Corsa acceleration problem

Car: Vauxhall Corsa
Variant: 1.0 L Trip
Model Year: 1999
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Just bought the car and it seemed fine until I got on the motorway slip road, when I put the throttle down it starts to cough and splutter and will not accelerate and if I keep my foot down the engine warning light comes on. If I lift my foot slightly the light goes out and the car runs fine, I can get the speed up if I accelerate slowly but if I put my foot down in second gear and above it will not go. The light only seems to come on if I keep my foot down and let the car cough and splutter for a couple of seconds.
PLEASE HELP…

Might be simple but I think you need a service.
i have a corsa 2003 and similar thing happened.
It will not let you go above a certain rev (3000rpm i think) due to the engine management system.
it has found a fault and wont go past that rev level to protect the engine.
Full Service will be best and take it from there.
Hope this helps

Serviced it but was the same, did some more research and worked out it could be one of three things
1. EGR Valve
2. Throttle Body
3. Air Mass Sensor
Went for the cheapest first which was the air mass sensor at £25 and the problem was solved.
