Vauxhall Corsa engine almost stopping on braking or when idle.

Car: Vauxhall Corsa
Variant: 1.2 auto
Model Year: 1999
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Took my corsa on the Mway yesterday for the first time in a couple of weeks, then on returning home noticed a periodic tapping/clicking sound from the front end of the engine (fore of the plugs, behind fan/radiator.) which kept cutting in & out unpredictably.
On braking the engine almost lost power & started lightly chugging, this then continued in "Park".
Anyone have any ideas?

Check oil and coolant levels .Noise could be timing chain which is very common on that car. If badly worn it needs replacing and will affect engine engine idle/performance .

the only way to address this issue is by taking it to a garage my friend. Corsa'a can suffer from valve problems and/or timing chain wear

They are also prone for snapping camshaft retaining bolts that hold the camshaft down, requires the top cover removed to check this,it may be your issue if it,s come on suddenly as opposed to a chain issue.
