Vauxhall Corsa engine pattering

Car: Vauxhall Corsa
Variant: 1.2 SXI
Model Year: 2002
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
ok, when driving my car it's recently started pattering under the bonnet, seems to be towards the back of the engine. sounds a bit like putting a piece of paper in a fan, i've had the problem before and took it for an oil change and it seemed to stop then recently it started again so i took it in for a full service and although it sound a lot better it still patters.

The mechanic said it was to do with the "tempers" so my wife told me but i've never heard of "tempers" before so thought that perhaps she misheard and the guy actually said tappets.

He said it was an expensive problem to fix but not vital to get sorted right away, how much is it roughly to get your tappets cleaned?

Second question, are there such things as tempers in an engine?

Thanks in advance.

sounds like tappets, the best way is to put an oil flush into engine run till its very hot then change oil use good oil and also correct type.some garages dont bother to get it hot enough this is the only wat to quiten down tappets.
