Vauxhall Combo starter motor

My van wont turn over when i switch on. It had a new alternator last year and the battery is fully charged so i changed the startor motor
but when i put the new one on i notice that there is an earth cable not conntected and i am not sure where it goes. Its underneath rear of the engine and it looks like it comes from a switch on the gearbox can anybody help me with this. The new starter motor as had the two cables tighted up on the new starter but i think this earth is connected to the problem

does it not go onto the starter solenoid?

Your battery must be earthed to the engine through cable ,usually onto the gearbox ,I own a combo myself if you are still having an issue I can go out and check it against my van.
