Vauxhall Astra knocking when clutch pressed

Car: Vauxhall Astra
Variant: 1.9 SRI CDTI 150 (xp)
Model Year: 2007
Categories: Steering, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres
Hi there,
I have a 2007 Vauxhall Astra 1.9 SRI CDTi and is on 35k miles.
Recently i have noticed a knocking noise coming from what seems to be the gearbox/clutch. This knocking noise only occurs when i press the clutch pedal when sitting at idle. Once the clutch is released the noise stops. The noise sounds like a metal on metal kncking and grinding and over the last few days seems to be getting worse. Any ideas on diagnosis or cost involved with sorting it?

Thanks
Copey

Sounds like the thrust bearing on the clutch that is on the way out.

I have been told that the DMF (Dual Mass Flywheel) fails regularly on this model. If that is the case, should i get the clutch changed aswell? What about the gearbox?

DMF is very common cause of knocking / rattle . Replace clutch kit with concentric slave cylinder at same time .
