Can be a bit of a problem . This is from VX forum covering that fault code and possible causes .Gives you an idea what your up against .
ASTRA FAULT CODE P0216 BACK AGAIN
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi there hoping someone can help me further with this problem as im still having issues!!
Made previous post but having trouble getting help so im making a post solely for fault code P0216. This code seems to be something to do with injection timing or control unit voltage but can pin down the exact meaning of this with regards to the 1.7DTi just seems to be generic explanations for all vehicles running on this code system.
However i have been having problems with the EGR valve code 0400 and this should be getting replaced shortly putting on new unit as in a taxi and cleaning will likely only last a short time. Now when i look into this fault code 0216 it seems to be edu, ecu, spill valve, crank sensor and EGR issues.
Ruled out the edu as vauxhall replaced this a year ago and this will cause me to shout at some people in vauxhall if this is away. My main thinking is the EGR at the moment as replacing this may cure the issue. could anyone clarify if this is a symptom of the EGR going? Seen a referencing to checking the wiring looms for 12v at differnet pins and sections and tracing a possible voltage problem from here. Spill valve relay was mentioned here as a probable cause depending upon the results of the electrical testing. Also heard from vauxhall that this code can in some cases point to any one of the numerous sensors involved in the injection control of this vehicle and in some cases is trial and error to replace the sensors. If this is the case im thiking my first port of call may be the crank sensor to see if its working properly. Also looking at the injection pump shaft position sensor as the could also be source of the problem but not sure if its available as a seperate purchase or a whole pump.
As you can see im stabbing in the dark with all sorts here just dont know what it could be. Other than being smokey on hard acceleration and sluggish now and again the engine runs perfect but im asuming these problems are due to the EGR valve being goosed.
All help very much appreciated
Many thanks

If you get any joy please let me know as I'm having the same problem, sluggish at low revs, fault code p0216. I have checked the pump timing, re-conditionned the EDU, replaced the Mass Air Flow Sensor and replaced the vacuum pipes, the EGR valve was going to be my next thing on payday,
