Vauxhall Astra strange engine noise

Car: Vauxhall Astra
Variant: 1.7 cdti
Model Year: 2007
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
i've got a strange metallic pinking noise coming from cam belt side of engine bay wen i'm in either 3rd,4th or 5th gear between 1500-2000 revs..(bearing in mind its a diesel) i can make it do it at will between those revs.. any ideas.. its more annouying than a problem.

i took it back to garage and they told me its normal and its cuz engine under strain.. i thought b*ll*x as i can stick it in 5th gear at 1000revs and it makes no noise til it gets to the magic 1500-2000 revs. cheers..

auxillary belt tensioners can be prone to wear on that engine causing a belt slipping noise when under hard acceleration, definately worth a look,if this is problem then renew ternsioner and aux belt
