Vauxhall Astra rubbing noise when engine running

Car: Vauxhall Astra
Variant: 1.8 SRi petrol
Model Year: 2008
Categories: Leaks & Noises
Today I pulled up at a family members house and there was a rubbing kind of noise coming from the area around the air filter and top of timing belt case cover. Upon inspection whilst engine running I could not see any obvious problems, but noise definately sounds like it's coming from the pulleys for alternator/coolant pump or possibly the timing belt pulleys.

Has anyone else encountered this problem???? If so what was the problem and how was it rectified? I don't want to go to the dealers and end up paying over the odds for that I could possibly do myself!!!

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated!

Best to get timing cover off and check what's causing noise , otherwise could turn out expensive repair if belt , water pump etc. fail .
