Sounds as if cooling system pressurising , could be head gasket .

Heater starts to blow cold because air in cooling system caused by head gasket . A sniff test (block test ) will tell if gasket knackered .

could be head gasket, but i would look at water pump first before going any further. faulty water pumps are easily mis-diagnosed....
