Vauxhall Astra cut out wile running, now won't start.

Car: Vauxhall Astra
Variant: 1.6 sl auto
Model Year: 1997
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
The car cut out wile running in full flow. There was no bang or shudder.

It has had a tendancy to cut out in the mornings when pulling out the drive, but it always started again and once warmed up it run ok. This time it will not start.

When I tern the ignition key, the starter motor terns over fine, but the engine doesn't fire. I have replaced the plugs and leads for new, I have checked that the fuel is passing through the cat. I'm thinking it could be the distributor as there was some bright blue powder on one of the old cable lugs when I removed it from the cat.

Any ideas guys?

I'll really appreciate it.

It will be a distributor module its quite common and quite expensive but you should find one in a scrap yard or ebay

Thanks for the suggestion. Is the distributor a difficult replacement, and do you think it a good idea to replace the ignition module at the same time, or would I be wasting my money?

Thanks again

most likely the hall sensor inside the distributor has failed, not a difficult fix, you can get an exchange unit from Andrew Pages at a very reasonable price and all you need to replace it is a 13mm spanner and a timing light
