Hi, thought i would post on here. So my astra decided 2 weeks ago as i was driving home to play up, as i went round a corner the acceleration stopped and steering wheel wouldnt move, got to a safe place turned my car off tried to start up but it failed, it turned but that was as far as it went. I got recovery to my local garage, diagnostics shown nothing. They had my car 2 days and it eventually started. 5 days later it wouldnt start again, recovery arrived plus a guy from the garage, bith did diagnostics and again no faults. It got recovered to the garage. They say they checked everything (fuel filter, fuel pump) and it started the next day after they wiggled some wires. I drove my car today and it did a pulling motion like the acceleration went for a few seconds then was ok again. Any help will be appreciated

Your steering failure would be caused by the engine not running , thereby you lose the power assisted steering . When you have a non start car you need to check certain systems , fuel and spark with petrol engines are two of them . You say they checked fuel system and eliminated that . An electrical failure of the crankshaft sensor or wiring would cause non start , often when engine is hot and can then start again when cooled down but USUALLY should throw a fault code .

No fault codes and no lights came on either, spark plugs were changed in October at its service. First time it took 4 hours to start up, 2nd time in the garage it took 29 hours to start up. All wiring looks ok, had another person look at the wires yesterday

When it didn't start they should have been able to easily check if it was getting spark and fuel and eliminate either or both and proceed from there depending on results

They didnt check the fuel filter/pump until the 2nd time it was there and they only checked it because i said something on the 2nd day. I only got my car back on Tuesday and still seeing issues when driving as it pulls for a few seconds like the acceleration isnt there then works again fine

What you are getting now , could possibly be caused by a faulty ignition coil pack which supplies the spark to each plug intermittently breaking down
