Vauxhall Astra only clocked up 12,000 but had mot failure. in.

Car: Vauxhall Astra
Variant: Mk VII (k) Hatchback (B16) 1.4 Turbo
Model Year: 2016
Categories: Steering, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres
Astra 2016 Hatchback 1.4 Turbo went into Lookers for a main Service. It failed it's MOT. Still at Lookers waiting for part to be shipped. Had phone call to say steering column was worn and I had to pay for new one. Only done 12,000 miles. I asked how a steering column could be worn out only 12,000 mileage & was told the steering column was a faulty part. I was told other Astra's had gone down with same problem on steering columns which had been faulty & replaced. Told the whole column needed to be replaced even though actual fault was up by steering wheel. Not happy as not long out of warranty. I have lost confidence in car now and my question is will this happen again after another 12,00 miles.

As far as I know it is a bracket on the steering column itself that causes the problem . Not sure if this is the reason why some were replaced under warranty . I think there also was a recall on some cars for checking in regard to the adjustment of column . I would double check with the dealership and pursue them on the matter , especially if car has full Vauxhall servicing record and due to mileage . A contribution to cost at least if not replaced FOC under warranty . If no success , get on to Vauxhall customer services . Nothing to lose but a couple of phone calls .

Thanks very much. Yes I am in the Looker's Service Plan and have always had my cars serviced by them. I feel they should have inspected this problem which must have been known to them last year while the car was still under warranty. It is only 4 years old. I need to know a bit more about the actual fault and will contact Lookers tomorrow to try and find out as much as I can. If problem has been happening to other Astra cars it must be know to Vauxhall Motors and I can't think why the affected cars were not called in to be put right. Anyway thanks again.
