Vauxhall Astra smell of burnt fuel both inside and outside

I have just bought a 1.9 CDTi AstraTwintop. When starting up I have noticed it smoked a bit. After a while the smoke goes away but the smell doesn't even if I drive with the top down which makes the smell worse. Any ideas please anyone?

Possibly the injector seals.
Any residue/brown/black gunk around the base of the injectors?

I have no idea about the brown/black/ gunk or residue around the base of the injectors because I think I will get our local garage to see to it. I just wondered what it could be. My husband is 67 and is not a very agile hands on man sadly. I love the twin too though, just annoying this smell is.
