Vauxhall Astra door lock problems...

Car: Vauxhall Astra
Variant: 1.6 Elite
Model Year: 2005
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
I had a 2005 model Elite, with a peculiar problem, that was repeated on the next Astra I had too!
On the 2005 one the courtesy light wouldn't switch on when the rear right door was opened. Strange, but I could probably live with it, then I found the simple old earth switches we used to find on cars had been superseded by a switch integrated into the lock! Then I found that the problem also included the door never actually locking! Lock is about £80+ vat.
Now I have a 2008 model Elite and was initially very pleased with the car, then I found the same (rear, right) door was not locking, though the courtesy light worked fine!
Understandably I don't want to have a car that is never wholly secure when locked! I have had the same problem on two consecutive cars; is this a common problem with modern Astras?

The micro switch on door lock is quite common on most cars nowadays .You could pull door trim off and check for any broken wiring where it passes into door frame and also lubricate door lock linkage / mechanism .
