Vauxhall Astra coolant water pump engine overheated

I know of the recall for the water pump on that car .Dependant on when that and other work was carried out before the engine overheated , really need more info .But from what you say , got to agree with RAC .The time in Lookers and £ 5000 price for engine seems crazy .Without knowing ALL the facts and hearing both sides , hard to give a definite opinion but it needs resolved ASAP .

Hi thanks for that the car had the same problem since 2011,had thermostat replaced in October on last breakdown in May RAC guy said water leaking from header tank did head gasket sniffer test went green sign its blown told me unsafe to drive, rang Lookers next day the said bring it in free of charge and they would have a look to see what was causing car to keep breaking down and why it was overheating after car been in garage 3 days told still lying idle in workshop yet when finally gets the copies of VHC date states it was checked on 25th May Day it went in.... Couldn't get answers on how long or what the problem was received call saying needed t strip engine as couldn't find the cause not even from doing coolant test or block test yet RAC guy told me it is lookers fault but they will never admit it!!!
The service manager finally sends letter out 2 weeks later saying nobody in their workshop is negligent and carried out repairs to high standard but since a good customer would offer discount towards new engine!!!
Made countless calls sent letters to Lookers Vauxhalls CAB motorcades all through resolver but just getting nowhere and the car is still in garage!!!
