Vauxhall Astra astra life a/c 2009 petrol 1598cc 2009 - won't start

Car: Vauxhall Astra
Variant: Astra Life A/C 2009 Petrol 1598cc
Model Year: 2009
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi,
My Astra Life A/C 2009 Petrol 1598cc 2009 (just over 54’000 millage) purchased in Dec 2014 won’t start – makes clicking noise. It has occurred twice (one 3 weeks ago) and this morning. First time, a local car mechanic jump started the car and it was working until this morning. He checked the battery last time and thought it was fine. This time he tried to start the car with a jump lead but won’t start. It started again with a jump start but won’t start again using the key again.

The electrics, light, Radio, CD player, etc. work. The battery voltage was slightly more than 10. He think the starter motor has failed.

Any help would be much appreciated,

AR

First off 10V isn't enough.
Modern cars are very sensitive to volt loss
And unless I'm seeing minimum 14V when running I'm looking for charging faults.
So either charge the battery for a couple of days,
If it "will" charge.
Or replace it with a known good one.
Then does it start?
If it does then check for V across the battery.
When running at idle I want MINIMUM 13.5 volts.
Even when loaded with .ALL electrics on,
lights/heater etc.
NOT 10 V.

Check the cylinder compression I had a problem with my Astra it turned out to be piston seized
