Vauxhall Astra engine management light

Car been running sluggish after last MOT, engine management light on, gear changing at high revs,gear selection variable, slow to change through gears,not selecting correct gear no leaks, engine/exhaust sounds rattly, sounds like its miss firing, got into car this morning gears selecting but car not pulling away was doing about 200 mtrs an hour speed wise,foot to the floor, no idea how to find fault codes, using wife's car need to get fixed this weekend, any suggestions.

Sounds like car has gone into limp mode .
Rather than guessing and fitting parts needlessly , get a diagnostic scan carried out and it will show the fault codes .

If the car is a mk5 or astra h try doing a free diagnostic check yourself by following this video. and then enter the codes on the internet or post codes here and i will advice..
