Vauxhall Astra noisy o/s front wheel.

Car: Vauxhall Astra
Variant: 1.6 16v manual
Model Year: 2001
Categories: Leaks & Noises
I hav a problem with a droning noise from the o/s front of the car. there is no excess movement in the wheel, up and down or from side to side so not sure if it's the bearing. the noise is getting louder than the engine and you can feel it in the steering(slight vibration). I undrstand that if it is the bearing I have fo purchase a complete hub assembly as the bearing is not available on it's own. is this true? Any help will be much appreciated. Ihave priced the hub at £45.00.

You should be able to tell by turning the steering ie if your turning left the noise will be more evident as you are loading that side, yes they come as a hub .

there is no noise evident when turning the wheel under load. but surely that would only prove wear in the drive shaft itself?

Bearing can be worn/ rough without having undue movement .If a driveshaft c/v joint knackered , tend to get clicking noise on full lock .
