Vauxhall Astra smoke from exhaust

Car: Vauxhall Astra
Model Year: 2005
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
the car have been smoking for a while now worst in traffic which covers the car behind, first we heard a noise which we thought it was the fan belt, then the smoke started, then the oil lights came on the red and yellow one, so far we have put in about 5-7 ltr of oil so we know we have a leak too; our firnd looked at it and couldnt see where. we have had the car service 3 weeks ago, yesterday the oil and air filter changed no luck. i am wondering whether it could be the oil pump or sump? how much will this all cost

Oil is getting into the combustion chamber which is causing you to use oil and produce the smoke. There could be any number of things that could cause this but I would start by having all cylinders compression tested.

thank you for the suggestion, you mention that there could be numerous possibilities that can cause this; so i am not going to be conned by the garage have you got any possibilities please?

i have researched this, and most people are saying that this could be piston rings and valve, some people are saying its the type of oil, and other have suggested the rocker gasket which is getting changed today by our friend.

You've run out of oil, the chances are the rings have been either damaged or broken, compression test is the best option.
