Vauxhall Astra starting problem- two garages can't fix my car.

Car: Vauxhall Astra
Model Year: 2005
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi there, would appreciate some advice please. My Astra is having starting problems, once it starts its ok. If I happen to stop for petrol it doesn't start. The engine can be both hot and cold, it makes no difference. If I try turning the ignition for 10 mins it does fire up. Its been in two garages, one a Vauxhall garage and no one can seem to fix it. I have been left already a few hundred quid out of pocket and have had to hire a car for work. Its an automatic, so I press the pedal down when I start it. Also the radio seems to come on when as soon as I turn the key.Its been on diagnostics machines in both garages, with no success. Once working the gears work ok, it runs smoothly. It has a new battery also, some joints have been sand papered down- if that makes sense! That's all I can say, thanks. :(

Is the car cranking over, but not starting If so It could be a number of things.Normally a fault code could be read from the vehicle to lead a technician in a direction in order to resolve the concern? When the fault happens is the engine getting fuel?,is it getting a spark? These are the basic first look at items.Do u think its related to the inhibiter switch,If so this could be by-passed to rule it out.Did the garages inform u of fault codes read from the vehicle? Will help further if wish

Hi thanks for your advice and reply. I picked up my car from the garage. It seems to be starting ok now but I don't trust it. The garage didn't charge me either. I don't know how to answer your questions, it seemed that there were many faulty codes coming up including about a sun roof. My car doesn't have a sun roof. I think the problem lies with it being an automatic- when you press the pedal and turn the key to start.
I have stopped and started it severa times today and its been ok I'm looking to part X it for either a low mileage fiesta or a high mileage VW golf diesel. I haven't decided yet. Thanks gain for your offer to help.
