Ok thanks i will take a look at that fuses cheers...it seems to be a problem between the key and the car, the spare key only starts the car, i wondeed if diconnecting the batter for 5 minutes would do any good, i dont have any warning lights on the dash on..cheers Fred.

If all else fails , worth trying disconnecting battery as it SOMETIMES reboots different circuits .

Latest update, i disconnected the battery for 5 minutes, reconnected it, still not working, i tested all the fuses in the under bonnet fuse box, even took some out and looked at them all ok, there is supposed to be an inside fuse box under the instrument cluster, can anyone tell me where the hec it is cause i cant find it, its says on LHS under instriumnet cluster, well mine is a RHD, and its not visable under there or the other side where there is a glove box, had panels off, if there is a fuse box it lloks like you have to take the instrumebt cluster out on the cowling off which involves taking the steering wheel of, that of course i am not going to do, surley even Vauxhalls are not that stupid, if all else fails i will just lock it wiit the key, can anyone tell me what this fuse 14 actually does? as all the locks work mechanically on swithes etc...thanks for your time Fred in Essex.

Thanks for that link, it wasn't very clear but i got the idea, i managed to find it in the end, its on the o/s kick panel more or less, i thought it was a module so i ignored it..cheers...instruction book misleading, prob for a LHD car..i checked all the fuses and they were all ok, the CDL seem to work a bit now but they seem a bit sluggish, i am still wondering about the battery in the key, i put a new one in, the old one was 2.99 volts the new one was only about 3.2v, came off ebay any idea what a new battery ought to read, labled as 3 volts..Fred.
