My son has not long had his first car and a few weeks ago whilst he was driving the car would not change gears. He managed to safely get off a major road and had to just stop the car. A mechanic friend told him to pump the clutch a few times then turn the car on and pump it a few more times and see if he could get it in gear which he could but the same thing happened again just as he arrived home. The mechanic came and looked at the car but could not see an issue however he bled the clutch when he was here. The car was fine for a couple of weeks but yesterday did exactly the same thing and when he has tried the gears today they are all moving freely. Has anyone else had the same issue with a vauxhall adam or can give me some advice?

If bleeding the clutch helped , it's possible the master cylinder is worn and drawing air . If you click on ADAM problems you will see others with the same fault but so far , no definitive answers or solutions from anyone in updates

My daughter has just bought a 2019 Adam and after only 4 weeks has the same problem leaving her distressed and upset.... car has only done 8000 miles .... any further persons with same problem that managed to fix the issue ?

Seems to becoming a very common fault . If only had the car for 4 weeks , no warranty or help from the garage that sold the car ?

Same issue here with daughters car. 2019. Had it 5 months. She has driven 1000miles in that period and the car has done a total of 13000 miles.
Gearing is mostly fine until it decides not to engage. The only solution I have found is to turn ignition off. Cycle through the gears and try again.
The garage has suggested it is the "pedal box spring" and have provided a quote of £1600 to replace. Apparently it is not the gearbox or clutch both of which are covered under warranty. Can anyone provide any info on the pedal box?

The pedal box / spring is now a common fault on that car , whether that would fix your problem remains to be seen , Usually affect the pedal sticking , not returning . Contact VX and see if they will at least make a contribution to the repair . Need to get a VX dealership to confirm this is the fault and not a local , independent garage
