Suzuki Swift starting

Car: Suzuki Swift
Variant: 1.3
Model Year: 2006
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
The Battery is fine i.e. 12.8V.

When I go to start the Car, ignition light's come on in the Dash as normal. When I turn the key to start position all dash light's go off and there is just 1 click - dash light's remain off. To get the ignition light's on again I have to undo a Battery terminal and re fit - then it repeat's the above. I have taken out the Battery and cleaned the Earth connection to the Body and also to the Block.

The Starter look's to be at the back of the Engine in an awkard spot - should I also clean the + & - connection's here.

The Car has been lying idle for some time but has alway's started up to now.

Any ideas?

Sounds like battery cable /connection problem .

I found that when I put a Jump Lead from the Negative Terminal on to the Block of the Engine the Car started. The problem seem's to have been in the connection of the Earth Lead's to the removable Earth connection. I undid the two screws on this and pulled out the Lead's to find they were heavily corroded. I hit the Lead's a few time's with a Plier's and they threw off a lot of corrosion. Connected them back together and the Car is now starting as normal.

Thank you W.
