Suzuki Jimny loud clunking noise when turning steering wheel

Car: Suzuki Jimny
Model Year: 2001
Categories: Leaks & Noises
When turning the wheel (maily full lock) there is a loud clunking sound. The steering wheel also shakes when driving over 30 mph.
Think its the axel - is this an expensive problem to fix?!

hiya el
from your description i see two poss probs,it could be either the c.v. joint or the wheel bearings, both would give the symptoms you describe as they both put the drive out of balance. i'm assuming car is front wheel drive, because of the year. you'd have to be damned unlucky for it to be the axle mate. a tip from an oldie, lol, always try to rule out the cheaper repairs first. let me know how you get on . regards dj dave.

check the air hubs disengauge correctly.
also if you have suzuki gen alloys there is a special way of balancing them. std balancers wont work.does it judder when braking as discs tend to warp
