This is the best I can do just now as going out shortly but gives you an idea of the possible fault from other previous owners .Hope it helps .

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread - we had this failure too (looking around for info about it prompted me to join here....)
The crankshaft pulley failed on our Jimny last week. The garage showed us the failed one - exactly as in the OP's post, the rubber section in the middle was completely destroyed, causing the pulley to throw the belts off. Given that the age & mileage on ours (2006 model, 29k on clock) is similar to the other cars mentioned in this thread, it implies that there might be a bad batch of pulleys.
The pulley was £143+VAT. To add to Beardie's post - we were charged the same (£14+VAT) for each belt."

" Mine went last week and it was fixed on tues by my local garage - i dont have access to a air wrench or the likes else i would have done it myself. I went in last weds to book it in and it was fixed on tues - total cost including replacing both belts, the pulley and labour 210 quid which wasnt bad. The garage told me it was a main stealer part only so i dont think thats too bad. With the bank holiday weekend as well, i didnt think it was too long a wait
Strangely i heard mine go, the pulley became offset - it sounded like a bag of spanners in the washing machine so i drove it home gently and left it on the drive until tues morning. Then when i fired it up to take it in, the was a clunk and it had fallen off. Mines done 95k so its probably just expired "
