Suzuki Jimny sounds like wheel bearings failing ?

Car: Suzuki Jimny
Variant: VVT
Model Year: 2005
Categories: Steering, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres
At about 30 - 40 mph a rough "buzz" like a hand sawing sound comes from underneath. Engage the 4x4 drive for a few seconds & sound gone = some times for all day, sometimes back in a few minutes. Local garage has looked can find no fault ? They took a front 4x4 hub off & road test = same noise. Took the large flat washer under hub off noise gone. They are perplexed

If a wheel bearing is gone it should not disappear for all day and then return , Should be constant apart from when load transferred .Depends on how bad noise is , but I've had a few where the noise was cured by correctly tracking the wheels .The wheel was running out of alignment causing the noise , but it was not a bearing noise .

Check that there's plenty of oil in your gearbox/transfer box.
