Skoda Octavia putting into reverse causes lamp warning light to come on

Car: Skoda Octavia
Variant: 1.9 TDi
Model Year: 2008
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
On first starting the car and putting it into reverse the lamp warning light comes on. Looking at the back of the car the reversing lights on the left do not come on but the fog lights on the right do come on and stay on even when putting the car in P or D. If I was to drive at this point my fog lights (which could be interpreted as reversing lights)
are permanently on

To remedy this I stop the car and start it again .... this time the lamp warning light does not come on , also the fog light lights do not come on but the reversing lights do come on and automatically switch off when I move into P or D. The car is then ok to drive (i.e the fog lights at rear not permanently on)

If I stop the car for a short time (15 mins or so) then it will be ok when I restart it. If I leave it switched off for more than about 15 mins the problem will recur

You need to check your rear lamp cluster and circuit boards for faults , water ingress and earthing
