Skoda Octavia fuel pump relay not triggering.

Car: Skoda Octavia
Variant: 1.9 tdi
Model Year: 2008
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
Car won't start. Traced to fuel pump relay not operating. Replacement relay makes no difference but removing top of relay and pressing contacts together cures problem. Car starts and runs no problem. Fault must be with whatever controls the operation of the relay but from there I am completely lost. No fault codes showing. Help!

Have already checked all the fuses in both boxes. There is power to the relay but it won't contact.

Checked the crank sensor for non start ?
Posted Nov 6, 2020 (3 years ago)
You must be getting PWR and earth at that relay 30 being your power supply as when you are pushing the contacts it works ,so other side that energies the relay is not functioning,If you check there maybe a system relay that is faulty ,should look similar to your fuel pump one, unless it’s a wiring short issue.

No - Would it still start manually if the crank sensor was faulty? How can I check it?

Hi - The under bonnet fuse box is not the same as those in the handbook . It only has one relay which is the fuel pump one. I have replaced the fuse in the dash board fuse box which is described as fuel relay activator although it was OK anyway. There are other relays hidden behind the cowling under the steering column but I have no idea what they are for.

Have looked at some older postings and they refer to a 109 relay on the board under the dashboard of most VW associated cars. It powers the ECU and it in turn powers the fuel pump relay under the bonnet. But they also mention that some MK2 Skodas are different does anyone know what the equivelant is on the tdi. How to identify it and where to find it. Haynes hardly mentions relays at all.
