Skoda Kamiq car attempts to pull away when handbrake still on.

Car: Skoda Kamiq
Variant: 1.5 automatic
Model Year: 2020
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
Scenario: I come to a stop using the foot brake at traffic lights for example. I know I am going to be stationary for a fairly long time, so I apply the hand brake and take my foot off the foot brake. The car sees this action as though I am about to move and actively tries to drive away. By that I mean it's like is trying to accelerate and not just wanting to drift forward on tick-over. It is not a "hill start" scenario because if I just use the foot brake (no hand brake), the car remains stationary and does not pull forward. Is there a fault (or missing) sensor on the hand brake?

Why not put in neutral instead of sitting in drive as is normal for most drivers ?
