SKODA Fabia SDi - Flooded FootwellQ
The rear passenger footwell carpet keeps getting wet on the driver's side of my wife's 2000 Fabia SDi hatchback. The bottom underside of the inside door trim panel also gets very wet.
Our local garage has had two goes at fixing the problem without success. I understand that they have removed the trim panel and the metal carrier panel for the window regulator and resealed with silicone sealant.
Before they spend any more time on this problem, is this type of water leak commonly caused by a known weakness with the Fabia? If so, what is the usual solution?
A
This is quite a common problem on most Fabia models and Skoda are aware of it, although if you do go and see your local Skoda dealer, I doubt if they will sort it out for free on an eight-year-old car. Still it might be worth a try.
The problem appears to be with the door seals, or rather the sealant used on them. Ideally this should be a rubberbased product that doesn't set hard such as Sikoflex, which should be available through most motor factors. Alternatively, I understand Skoda have changed the sealant they use both during manufacture and for the aftermarket, so perhaps you could try your local dealer for some.
I assume the garage has checked the door drain holes and, if necessary, cleared them.
