Car seems to run perfectly with engine light on. Only error shown is 'Stop start not working' disabling that system clears that until the engine is re-started.
Past MOTs have not indicated any running problems, it has passed MOT with the light temporarily switched off using a fault reader, and several garages have advised that's OK. That is now not allowed.
I need a permanent solution. The battery has been replaced but this made no difference; the old one was about to fail. The car gets very little use these days but is essential. MOT is due in November.

Unless it has changed , if it's just the stop/start light then it will be OK and pass . MAY show as an advisory .Low battery voltage is most common cause , worth checking
voltage and charging if needed . Especially as you mention lack of use nowadays .
