Is AM radio the same as Medium Wave ?
" AM and FM refer to the ways in which the audio is carried in the radio wave - FM being Frequency Modulation and AM being amplitude modulation.
AM therefore does not just refer to Medium Wave, it also refers to Long Wave and Short Wave signals. However, if a station said it was on 693AM, then this would be the same as 693MW. Something like 198AM would be 198LW however.

AM means Amplitude Modulation, it's the way the audio is carried on the radio wave. Stations on the MW (Medium Wave) band use AM as do the stations on the LW (Long Wave) band and most SW (Short Wave) stations.
FM means Frequency Modulation and this is what is used on the VHF Band. (It is less susceptible to interference).
