Skoda Fabia brake fault

hi my fabia 1.9 tdi has developed a couple of faults firstly the brake pedal sometimes goes hard when braking resulting in no brakes or very little brake anyone any ideas
secondly the car struggles to start in the morning bought a new battery but still struggles it has never failed to start any ideas

Check glow plugs for starting fault. Check brake servo, hose and any inline valve if fitted for brakes.

Could be water in the servo,check that there's no water trapped in the bulkhead .
