Seat Leon tailgate won't open, the tailgate just gives a whirring sound when you try to open it

Variant: 1.8 TDi
Model Year: 2011
On depressing the key fob or opening the tailgate their is a whirring sound as if the motor inside the boot is stuck, the tailgate can only be opened using the manual release inside the boot

Need to pull the trim off inside and see what the problem is . Often water ingress can be the fault and spraying linkage / actuator with the likes of WD 40 may rectify .

If its just whirring the motor drive will have stripped.
Replace the lock mechanism... Fit new. These are often cheaply manufactured and have weak plastic components. Second hand may only last days/weeks.
