Seat Ibiza boot does not open

Car: Seat Ibiza
Variant: 1.9 TDI
Model Year: 2000
I can't open the boot door, when the car is unlocked (and when its locked too).

The SEAT latch lifts up but nothing happens.

There is no obvious damage to it, but it is not catching where it use to when I lifted the latch up.

Have tried using the key and lifting but still does not work.

Would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,

Looked inside and the latch is not pulling up the wire that pulls on and opens the boot door. It moves it but does not pull it up sufficiently to open the boot.

This might help you with locking / unlocking fault ,

Thanks for the link.
Hopefully the problem is related. I have taken the plastic cover off and I will spray WD40 around the plunger in a while.

The plastic cover has been off before, so perhaps this was fixed before.

You got me looking and thinking - all I had to do was tighten the thread on the rod.

Thanks,
