Rover 75 battery power draining ***help!***

Car: Rover 75
Variant: 2.0 cdt
Model Year: 2001
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi all, I have a problem with my rover.

I am getting a power drain on about 2.5 - 3 amps on the 100 amp ignition circuit.

I found this by disconnecting negative battery terminal and using an ammeter, I pulled out each fuse until the drain went away. When I disconnected the 100 amp fuse (security screws) the drain went down to about 0.25 amps which is good, but I've been told even that is too much!

I would appreciate any help as I have only just got the car.

could be due to a faulty alternator, get it checked out first or if not too expensive replace it

Would it be best to disconnect it and try again? I'm not getting an alternator warning light or anything,

90% of time, battery drainage is due to a faulty alternator, that's why it's best to get it tested or if testing costs almost the same as replacing it, it's best to replace it.

Ok, finally found out what the problem was!

It was the Glow Plug Relay! The left hand plenum chamber which is situated at the back near side of the engine compartment just in front of the windscreen was flooded!

Leaves had got into it and broken down and blocked the drain hole, hence a heavy down pour and the relay being in the same plastic housing as the ECU suffered! Luckily the ECU wasn't damaged! Thankfully my local garage a Rover/ TVR / Noble dealer had one in stock. Took the old one in and as soon as the tech saw it he said "rover 75, flooded left hand plenum chamber? Battery draining within hours?"

The only down side is it cost £85.00 to replace! A lot cheaper than an ECU, but still a lot of money!

Cheers to all for their help!
